Land Patent: Indian Purchase - Capt. Thomas Cresap - 330 Acres - 1742
Last Update: Jan. 27, 2011
Indian Purchase was patented to Thomas Cresap in 1742, the same year as Indian Field. The distance from the "large rock" to the mouth of the South Branch of the Potomac is hard to read but appears to be sixteen miles. Indian Purchase can be found on Veatch's 1787 map at coordinates "D-E/13-14". I originally thought the distance was 6 miles but a route that would take one from the South Branch to the Pinto area in that short distance seems unlikely.
